Deeply rooted in the heart of downtown Marietta, Ohio, the Town House has been a family-owned local gathering place for three generations. With the confidence from raising 6 children, Julia and Jim Matheny embarked on a new adventure when they opened the doors to the Town House on July 15th, 1968. Bringing original recipes from home, the Town House quickly became known for their award-winning chili, steak sandwich, lunch, and breakfast. Beyond their well-loved menu, the Town House is also known for their support and involvement, as a restaurant in Marietta, in the local community.

In the beginning, Julia and Jim performed all restaurant labor with the help of their children: Jimmy, Patty, Gary, Joe, Billy, and Tom. In 1974, the values of family and hard work became even more important when Jim’s health declined, and he passed away 5 years later. Julia strongly adapted and ran the business for the next few years.   In 1980, Julia began passing the reigns to her son, Billy Matheny. With a knack for business and a kind personality, Billy continued growing the business and eventually incorporated the Town House in 1985. Keeping the quality food and good spirits alive, Billy operated the Town House from 1981-2002. In the spring of 2002, Billy unexpectedly fell ill and passed away later that year. Billy’s wife, Rachelle, courageously stepped up during this time, learning all aspects of the restaurant business while continuing to raise 2 children at home.

Rachelle continued to run the Town House until 2017, when she confidently passed on ownership duties to her youngest son, Nathan Matheny. As the current owner of the Town House, Nathan has maintained the authentic quality and atmosphere of this sports bar in Marietta, Ohio for yet another generation! With the newly opened outdoor patio, recent remodels, and age-old favorites, it’s always a good time to visit your favorite local restaurant, the Town House!
